The church is named for St. Edmund with original registers commencing 1725. Kingsdown (West, or by-Dartford) is a parish in Dartford district, Kent; 3 miles southeast of Eynesford rail station, and 7-1/2 miles south-south-east of Dartford. It contains the chapelry of Maplescombe, the manor of Woodland, and the hamlet of Portobello; and its post town is Farningham, under Dartford. Acres, 2,780. Real property in 1860, £2,738. Population in 1861, 428. Houses, 88. About 80 acres are under hops. The living is a rectory, united with the perpetual curacy of Maplescombe, in the diocese of Rochester. Value, £382 with a habitable glebe house. Patrons, the Dean and Chapter of Rochester. The church comprises nave and chancel, with a porch; and has some fragments of stained glass, of the 14th century. Maplescombe is a hamlet in Kingsdown parish, Kent; 1-1/2 miles southeast of Farningham. It was formerly a parish; and it still ranks as a chapelry, annexed to the rectory of Kingsdown, in the diocese of Rochester. The church is in ruins.1
